Dear Friend:
My Father emigrated here from Scotland in 1957 because Michigan was where the American Dream was being realized.
A merchant seamen and a member of the Engineer's Union, Dad settled in the Flint area because it was a place where a skilled worker could make a good living and raise a family. For 30 years as a powerhouse operate and member of UAW Local 659, that is what he did.
Now many people looking for work are migrating away from Michigan.
Instead of being the engine of the U.S. economy we are the target of bailouts.
Michigan was in a recession before the rest of the country thanks to disastrous tax and spending policies.
The kinds of jobs that attracted my dad to Michigan are being regulated into extinction by radical policies that consider making and building things old fashioned and dirty.
These are tough times, and the American Dream seems for many to be on the ropes. However, it is in tough times that Americans rally to do what must be done.
I believe that Michigan has the people and the natural resources to make the most of that opportunity.
As a State Representative and County Commissioner, I have fought to cut property taxes, income taxes, and the state's job-killing Business Tax.
As your State Senator, I will continue to fight for policies that create jobs, and fight those that drive them out of our state.
Michigan can be the home of the American Dream once again.
I will not rest until that dream is a reality.
